On Sunday, the 2nd of March, our community came together to participate in the monthly litter pick day, an event that takes place every first Sunday of the month. The tools and equipment were kindly provided by Friends of Bruce Castle Park, making it easy for everyone to get involved.
With the vegetation not yet fully grown, this was an excellent opportunity to clear litter from areas that will soon become harder to access. As spring progresses, these areas will be covered in dense vegetation, making rubbish harder to spot and risking disturbance to nesting birds.
The day’s efforts resulted in the collection of seven bags of rubbish, along with numerous larger items that had been previously dumped within the cemetery boundaries. Among the items collected were the usual drink cans and bottles, as well as after-building rubble, broken ceramic tiles, bricks, wiring, a vacuum cleaner, plastic crates, and containers.
If you would like to get involved, our monthly litter pick happens on the first Sunday of every month. We meet in front of The Bruce Castle Museum at 2 pm. The cleaning session lasts for one hour and is followed by a social gathering inside the museum, where coffee, tea, and cakes are served.
No prior experience is necessary – just turn up and lend a helping hand!
